Questions to Ponder

Can you cry under water?

Why does a round pizza come in a square box?

What disease did cured him actually have?

Why is an actor IN a movie but ON t.v.?

Can a hearse carrying a corpse drive in the carpool lane?

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Morality is doing what is right, regardless of what we are told.

Religious dogma is doing what we are told, regardless of what is right.

I'M LEARNING...

I'm learning...
that I either control my attitude or it controls me.

I'm learning...
that money is a lousy way of keeping score.

I'm learning...
that my best friend and I can do anything or
nothing and still have a good time.

I'm learning...
that sometimes when I'm angry, I have the right to be angry,
but it doesn't give me the right to be curel or verbally abusive.

I'm learning...
that heroes are the people who do what has to be done,
when it needs to be done,
regardless of the consequences.

Heard at a 50th Class Reunion

"We finally got all our kids out of the house so we could have some fun but by then, we'd forgotten how!"

Now, I don't care who you are, that's funny!

Hear and Heed

Franklin D. Roosevelt's inauguration speech on March 4, 1933 which occurred in the middle of the bank panic, hence the backdrop for his famous words:

This great Nation will endure as it has endured, will revive and will prosper. So, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself– nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance.

That's When the Fight Started...

My wife and I were sitting at a table at my high school reunion, and I kept staring at a drunken lady swigging her drink as she sat alone at a nearby table.

My wife asked, "Do you know her?"

"Yes," I sighed, "She's my old girlfriend. I understand she took to drinking right after we split up those many years ago, and I hear she hasn't been sober since."

"My God!" says my wife, "who would think a person could go on celebrating that long?"
And that's when the fight started...

********

My wife and I are watching Who Wants To Be A Millionaire while we were in bed. I turned to her and said, "Do you want to have sex?"

"No," she answered.

I then said, "Is that your final answer?"

She didn't even look at me this time, simply saying "Yes."

So I said, "Then I'd like to phone a friend."

And that's when the fight started....

More I'm Learning...

I'm learning...
that I shouldn't compare myself to the best others can do.

I'm learning...
that I can do something in an instant
that will give me heartache for life.

I'm learning...
that I can keep going long after I can't.

I'm learning...
that I'm responsible for what I do,
no matter how I feel.

I'm learning...
that it's taking me a long time to become the person I want to be.

I'm learning...
that I should always leave loved ones with loving words.
It may be the last time I see them.

Lessons Being Learned by a Client

I'm learning...
that I cannot make someone love me. All I can do is be someone who is lovable. The rest is up to them.

I'm learning...
that no matter how much I care, some people just don't care back.

I'm learning...
that it takes years to build up trust,
and only seconds to destroy it.

I'm learning...
that it's not what I have in my life but who I have in my life that counts.

I'm learning...
that I can get by on charm for about fifteen minutes.
After that, I'd better know something.

DO YOU REMEMBER THESE?

1. A bone to pick (someone who wants to discuss a disagreement)

2. An axe to grind (someone who has a hidden motive. This phrase is said to have originated from Benjamin Franklin who told a story about a devious man who asked how a grinding wheel worked. He ended up walking away with his axe sharpened free of charge)

3. One bad apple spoils the whole barrel (one corrupt person can cause all the other's to go bad if you don't remove the bad one)

4. Barking at a knot (meaning that your efforts were as useless as a dog barking at a knot)

5. Barking up the wrong tree (talking about something that was completely the wrong issue with the wrong person)

6. Bee in your bonnet (to have an idea that won't let loose )

7. Been through the mill (had a rough time of it)

8. Blinky (between sweet and sour as in milk)

9. Calaboose (a jail)

10. Catawampus (something that sits crooked such as a piece of furniture sitting at an angle)

11. Dicker (to barter or trade)

12. Feather in Your Cap (to accomplish a goal. This came from years ago in wartime when warriors might receive a feather they would put in their cap for defeating an enemy)

Down Home Philosophy

During the '50's, Lester Marchbanks owned and operated Marchbanks Grocery on Bible Hill Road in Parsons, Tennessee. He loved kids and always made us feel welcome when we'd stop to buy snacks after school.

His introduction was always the same: "Howdy Gentleboys, let’s have nothing but silence and very little of that!”

One of his favorites and oft-repeated maxims was this: "Gentle-boys," he’d say, "if you want your dreams to come true, here’s the secret. Out of every dollar you make, give a dime to God as you pray, use a dime for yourself to play, save a dime for a rainy day."

Wish I'd followed his excellent advice!

One of My Favorite Songs

Kiss today goodbye
The sweetness and the sorrow
Wish me luck the same to you
But I can't regret what I did for love
What I did for love

Look, my eyes are dry
The gift was ours to borrow
It's as if we always knew
And I won't forget what I did for love
What I did for love

Gone, love is never gone
As we travel on
Love's what we'll remember

Kiss today goodbye
And point me t'ward tomorrow
We did what we had to do
Won't forget, can't regret
What I did for love
What I did for love

Metaphor of Life

"Life is like a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away." (James 4:13-14
